Morris Lentz said the annual Alabama Association of Volunteer Fire Departments conference provides much more than an opportunity to mingle with fellow firefighters. "It's a chance to encounter the latest and greatest in equipment and training," said Lentz, a veteran firefighter for Rogersville Volunteer Fire Department. "It's also a good way for volunteer firefighters to network with each other, and to get ideas across the state and use that on the local level." The Lauderdale County Volunteer Fire Department Association hosts the state agency's 41st annual conference Friday and Saturday. The event is at Marriott Shoals Conference Center, said Scott Childers, president of the Lauderdale association and assistant chief for the Anderson Volunteer Fire Department.
