Oxford firefighters are knocking on doors to ask if locals have working smoke detectors.
They're calling it a Smoke Detector Blitz. It's apart of a statewide campaign, "Turn your attention to fire prevention."
The department teamed up with the State Fire Marshal's Office to obtain the free smoke detectors.
Thursday is the last day firefighters will go door-to-door to hand out smoke detectors to locals. However, you can get a free smoke detector from firefighters year-round.
"As soon as it detects smoke, it's going to alert you and get you out. Seconds matter in a fire situation," Lieutenant Mike Walsh with the Oxford Fire Department said.
