As Blake Willett, a Boaz firefighter and paramedic, sent the unmanned aircraft system (UAS) up into the winter sky, the Boaz Fire Department became one of the first locations in Marshall County to have a rescue drone fully operational and at its disposal.
With a pair of eyes in the sky, Willett said the state-of-the-art technology would be a tremendous help to Boaz and even the surrounding communities in several ways.
“The primary reason we got it was to use it in search and rescue missions and stuff like that,” Willett said. “It will also help in fire investigations and getting to places that maybe we can’t get – places we’d rather not be if it’s too dangerous – and get an overhead look at things. That’s where it will be most helpful.”
