Residents of a Cedar Key Court home and their pets are safe after a fire that heavily damaged their home Sunday night, according to the Mobile Fire-Rescue Department.
Fire crews were dispatched to the blaze in the 6400 block of Cedar Key Court about 7:20 p.m. They found heavy smoke and fire showing from the rear corner of a two-story, wood-frame home.
The residents were outside the structure with their dog, but three cats were still inside, the MFRD said.
Firefighters were able to get the fire under control, but the building suffered significant damage. They were able to rescue the cats, and no injuries were reported.
The MFRD said the cause of the fire was determined to be accidental, involving cooking appliances.
