After a lot of discussion about the need for a new fire truck, the Cherokee Village City Council voted unanimously for the purchase at its regular monthly meeting on Friday, July 19. Fire Chief Johnny Pendarvis said, "If we don't get the truck, our insurance rates will go up," in making the proposal for the $118,000 appropriation. When Alderman Chuck McMahon suggested the department apply for federal grants, the chief explained that there were currently none available, and when the grant programs are opened, it takes a year or more to learn whether the department had been approved.
