Members of the community are rallying behind the Stuttgart Fire Department (SFD) firefighters after their request for funds for uniforms was denied at the Sept. 20 Stuttgart City Council meeting.
The group has been planning ways to raise money for the department to be able to purchase uniforms with jackets and have money left over for new hires or other needs. They held a meeting Monday to discuss some possibilities and schedule events. At the Sept. 20 city council meeting the firefighters presented a request for three pairs of pants, two polo-style shirts and the new T-shirts they just received, or two pairs of pants, two polo-style shirts and a jacket. For two pairs of pants and two polos, the cost would be $131.96 per person and for three pairs of pants and two polos it would cost $171.95 per person, not including the T-shirts they just received. The department consists of 22 firefighters, including the chief.
