The City Council heard department reports and approved spending money to finish the fire station and to trim and remove trees from the city park. Council members approved spending up to $1,100 to trim park trees and to remove two dead trees. Also approved was allowing the Fire Department to use $52,495 in its savings account from Act 833 money, the department equipment fund and the Bryant Fund to complete work on the fire station. Fire Chief Gene Holland estimated another $57,719 is needed to complete the work. Fire Chief Gene Holland said wallboard has been put up and money to purchase insulation came from a recent Fire Department benefit. Work has been ongoing for a couple years, but completion has been delayed by a number of setbacks, Holland said.
