Rogers Fire Chief Tom Jenkins was in Washington, D.C. Tuesday to testify before Congress on the behalf of the fire service about the devastation caused by wildfires in 2017.
Jenkins is serving as the president of the International Association of Fire Chiefs and one of his duties is visiting with elected officials about issues that fire chiefs have on a local level.
"Wildfires, in particular 2017, proved to be a challenging year and we've seen it over the last 10 years increase in both intensity and the seasons increased," Jenkins said.
Jenkins says that wildfires can happen at anytime and it can affect all areas of the country, including right here in Northwest Arkansas.
