A young boy is in the hospital after Phoenix firefighters pulled him from a canal. Phoenix fire officials say they received a call before 10:30 a.m. Sunday that a child fell into the canal near 43rd Avenue and Crittenden Lane. Firefighters located the 18-month-old boy and performed CPR. He was then taken to the hospital in critical condition. According to police, the toddler accidentally got out of a gate connected to the family's home. Officer James Holmes says the boy is in critical condition but does have a pulse. Phoenix police are investigating the incident. Holmes says there are no other children in the house. The family has no history with the state Department of Child Safety or Phoenix police.
