Emma Melo was having lunch with her granddaughter and son Paul at a Sierra Vista sandwich shop when she got the call that her husband had crashed his motorcycle on Charleston Road, east of the San Pedro River. She rushed to the scene. “I drove 80 miles an hour, and I would have gone faster but my granddaughter was in the car,” Emma said. She arrived about eight minutes after receiving the call to discover her husband lying on the side of the road and two home health aides who happened to be driving by frantically attending to his condition. One was performing CPR.
