Fifty firefighters from four agencies battled a fire on Freeport-McMoRan's Sierrita Mine property in Green Valley on Monday for nearly five hours before putting it out. The fire broke out about 11:15 a.m. in a secondary crusher unit and was extinguished about 4 p.m., according to spokesmen from the Green Valley Fire District and Freeport-McMoRan. No injuries were reported. Crews from GVFD, Drexel Heights, Rural/Metro and Tucson Fire responded to the incident in the unit, which crushes rock during a multi-stage process.
