A 9-year-old boy escaped a fire that started in the garage of his Phoenix home Monday afternoon and quickly extended to the attic, the Phoenix Fire Department said. The boy, who was at home along with family dogs, told officials he heard noise that sounded like items falling in the garage, fire officials said. He told firefighters he then saw the fire and smoke and got on the ground and rolled out of the front door, officials said. The boy also said he got his dog out of the house on his way out, fire officials said. Bystanders helped get the boy’s other dog out prior to the fire department's arrival, officials added.
