VIDEO: When you think of firefighters rushing into action, you might think of battling flames. But first responders have to be ready for all types of rescues, even ones that happen in very small spaces. Twenty-five first responders from seven different public safety agencies are training for those types of rescues this week. It’s all a part of confined space training, hosted by the Tucson Fire Department and sponsored by the International Association of Firefighters (IAFF). “They will go out and do pre-plans at different facilities with confined spaces so they know what they're affected with,” explained IAFF Deputy Director, Phillip Gauer. “So when that call comes in, they already have some awareness of what the hazards are in that space and what they need to do to get that victim out of that space.”
