Three local firefighters are returning home this week after being deployed the last month to help combat the Chetco Bar Fire in southwestern Oregon. Patrick Lee Hatfield, 29, of Patagonia and Nogalians Christopher Felix, 36, and 38-year-old Oscar Verdugo, Jr., all firefighters with Patagonia Volunteer Fire and Rescue, are part of an engine crew that has spent the last 21 days helping fight Oregon’s largest wildfire at a little more than 191,000 acres. On Sunday, the trio celebrated their final day in Oregon and began their three-day drive back to Patagonia Monday morning, said Patagonia Fire Capt. Ike Isakson.
