Citing his knowledge of the district and lengthy career in the fire service, the Rio Rico Fire District board hired Al Flores as its new fire chief. The board voted during its meeting Tuesday to appoint Flores, a 21-year veteran with RRFD, as the district’s interim fire chief. He was one of two finalists for the position and his starting annual salary is $95,000. Flores replaces firefighter Adam Amezaga, who stepped up to fill the position on an interim basis as the board worked to find a permanent chief. Amezaga, who was appointed interim chief on May 1 with the recommendation of retired Chief Les Caid, replaced Caid, who announced his retirement at the end of February after nearly 35 years in the fire service.
