Thursday was a big day at Green Valley Fire District’s Station 152. The district’s new recruits put aside their books to practice putting on their new gear. If that doesn’t sound exciting to you, imagine this — your house is on fire, and a firefighter’s ability to put on gear quickly could be the difference between losing everything or saving it. GVFD Training Capt. Chris Scheller told the group they had to complete the task in 60 seconds. The first time around, the fastest recruit managed to get it done in 1 minute, 7 seconds; the slowest was 20 seconds behind that. The third time around, the fastest time was 50 seconds, the slowest, 1 minute, 10 seconds.
