The Rio Rico Fire District has ended its non-emergency mutual aid agreement with the Nogales Suburban Fire District, citing concerns about quality of service, liability and taxpayer cost. RRFD is concerned about NSFD stations not being staffed 24/7, certification levels and a lack of reciprocity of the agreement, RRFD chief Al Flores told the NI. These issues have “imposed an unintended duty, responsibility or liability for our district, employees and taxpayers,” he said. “It’s gotten to the point where they need to get their act together or we can’t continue to support the relationship,” Dean Davis, RRFD governing board chair, said during a meeting on Dec. 19 at which the board unanimously voted to terminate the mutual aid agreement on Feb. 1.
