The chief of the Rio Rico Fire District, barely three months into his tenure, has been put on paid leave while an outside lawyer conducts an investigation into an undisclosed accusation against him. The move to temporarily sideline Chief Al Flores came during a special RRFD governing board meeting held last Friday evening for what a meeting agenda described as “discussion or consideration of employment and assignment of Fire Chief Al Flores,” among other related matters. However, the discussion took place out of the public eye in executive session, and the three subsequent unanimous votes that authorized the investigation, put Flores on leave and named Battalion Chief Adam Amezaga as his temporary replacement came without further insight.
