The Pima County Office of Emergency Management is keeping pro-active to prevent accidental alerts from being sent out in light of the Hawaii mishap. "It's really unfortunate that (Hawaii incident) created so much panic but I think it's important that we reassure the citizens of Pima County that we have plans in place to avoid an incident like that,” said Kyla Breslin, emergency management spokeswoman.
On Saturday morning, for nearly 40 minutes, people in Hawaii scrambled for shelter, others making contact with loved ones, led to believe an incoming missile from North Korea would mark the end.
Hawaii state officials say an employee clicked on the incorrect link, activating a real alert to the masses.
Federal agencies are now investigating what led to the false alert.
