With very little precipitation this past winter, nature didn’t help Arizona much with wildfire prevention this summer, so firefighters warned homeowners it was up to them to keep flames from reaching their homes if lightning from the monsoon sparks up a fire. Thursday, the clouds were rolling in as thunderstorms, lightning and strong winds made their way into the High Country increasing the threat of fire danger. The National Weather Service said a monsoon push would make its way through the White Mountains and Apache County Thursday, reaching Yavapai County by Saturday. Paul Summerfelt, fire management officer with the Flagstaff Fire Department, had several tips for homeowners to protect their houses from wildfires.
