The Scottsdale Fire Department has welcomed its first female fire captain. “I'm very proud to be where I'm at. I'm not the first and I certainly won’t be the last,” Captain Kelly Cavner said. The department's newest captain said her family's and fellow crew members' support helped her get to where she is. “My crews have been very supportive in this process and I couldn't have done it without my family at home,” she added. The promotional process started last year. What began as a list of 24 candidates whittled down to 10, and ultimately to Cavner. “A lot of dedication and persistence to get where were I'm at and just looking forward to serving our community the best I can,” she said.
