Crews were working Tuesday to repair a damaged power line and restore electricity in the Heber-Overgaard area as firefighters continue to battle brush fires that have charred more than 7.6 square miles in eastern Arizona. The fires that began Monday forced the closures of State Routes 277 and 377 northeast of Heber. State Route 277 reopened Tuesday afternoon. Authorities say the fires were ignited by sparks from a trailer part being dragged by a truck. Several ranches were evacuated because of the fires, which remained zero percent contained Tuesday. A shelter was opened at the Navajo County Fairgrounds in Holbrook.
