VIDEO: Capt. Anthony Valverde with the Glendale Fire Department said his duty to save lives goes far beyond when he clocks out of work. “We get into this profession knowing that we’re in a position to help people,” said Valverde. And on Monday night as he was driving home in Goodyear, he watched a truck slam into a car at a red light at Wildflower Drive and Yuma Road, and the firefighter in him knew a family needed his help, and fast. “I came around to the rear passenger seat, saw the dad in there hysterical, trying to wake his son up,” said Valverde. Edgar Nunez-Hernandez, 13, was in the backseat with his little brother when they were hit, and his mom and dad were up front. His little brother was hurt but alive, but Edgar wasn't breathing. Valverde called 911.
