Thursday, June 21, was not only the first day of summer but it was also the hottest day of 2018. And, the Sedona Fire District received the highest number of heat-related calls they’ve had this year. Coincidence? Probably not. With temperatures hitting triple digits, SFD has seen a sudden rise in emergency calls from those who have found themselves on trails and unprepared for the heat. SFD Capt. Pat Ojeda said they responded to several calls late last week and as a result have posted warnings at several popular trailheads including Devil’s Bridge, Soldier Pass, Airport Loop, and Cathedral and Bell Rock.
