The Tucson Fire Department is accepting applications for firefighters. The recruitment process is open and the department is working to fill 28 positions. Those spots were left open by firefighters who have retired or have left the department. “We are looking for the energetic, motivated individual, but more than anything because we serve a diverse population we want to make sure we have diverse population within our department so we can represent the community that we serve,” Capt. Andy Skaggs said. Recruits must meet the minimum requirements before they can make it to the 22-week fire academy, which Skaggs said can be a tough experience physically and mentally.
