Firefighters from the Tucson Fire Department extinguished a midtown house fire on Thursday morning, March 8, and rescued a dog in the process.
Before firefighters arrived, the 26-year-old resident was able to escape the fire with one of her dogs. Firefighters found the other in a kennel and were able to bring it out to safety.
A bystander alerted the woman's neighbors to the fire and were able to get to safety with their dog.
The fire happened at a duplex near Glenn Street and North Stone Avenue and authorities had to close Stone between Glenn and Kelso Street.
Fire officials believe the fire started on the front porch and suspect discarded smoking materials are the cause, but the cause is still under investigation. Damages have not yet been determined.
No injuries were reported.
