Rural Metro firefighters train for Wildland fires

VIDEO: But first, they have to quality for the front line assignment. The firefighters are taking a nationally recognized test where they walk three miles with a 45 pound vest in under 45 minutes. Taking the test for the first time as a Rural Metro firefighter is Corey Pangrac. He said it is a mind workout as well as well as having to push yourself. The test prepares firefighters to be able to do their job in steep terrain, high altitude and under smoking conditions. Cliff Maloy is a seasoned wildland firefighter. He's been on the front lines for 19 years, and he has to qualify every year.
