One of the best-kept secrets in Peoria is Lake Pleasant, a manmade lake that attracts boaters and swimmers from around the world, but visitors’ safety is of the utmost priority. The Rescue Swimmer Boat Operator Program (RSB) has been operating at the lake after the City Council decided to increase safety measures at the lake. “We didn’t even have a boat up here until 2012,” Deputy Fire Chief Staci Irvine said. “We were able to get that after a grant from the Tohono O’odham (Nation), which was great because, before that, we would actually have to commandeer a boat in emergencies.”
