The Eloy Fire District has sent a four-person crew and one vehicle to assist in battling destructive wildfires in California. Eloy Fire Marshal Bob Poindexter said the crew left on Friday, and he was uncertain when exactly they may return. The bigger the fire, he added, the longer crew members remain there. Eloy Fire wouldn't have sent firefighters to California unless their shifts could have been covered by other staff, Poindexter said. According to The Associated Press, the Arizona Department of Forestry and Fire Management will be deploying at least 144 firefighters to California for a 14-day assignment. Some of these crews are from Scottsdale, Tucson, Globe and Glendale.
