For the month of September, just under 1,600 acres have been harvested across the four forests; Apache-Sitgreaves, Coconino, Tonto, and Kaibab. The harvested acres occurred in 11 timber sale areas. For the fiscal year of 2018 mechanical thinning, prescribed burning and wildfire that meets land management plan objectives has been completed on 102,214 acres on all four forests within 4FRI. There are 91,161 acres still under contract that need to be harvested which includes the Phase 1 stewardship contract and other thinning and Forest Service fuels reduction contracts. Twenty-two thinning contracts are expected to be offered in the next six months, including three on the Apache-Sitgreaves National Forest where 4,994 acres will be offered.
