The Fort Mojave Mesa fire chief said he’s conscious of his duty to be fiscally responsible. Bret Scholz also said he’s conscious of rare opportunities and the need to take advantage of them when they come up. Wednesday, he brought what he called such an opportunity to the fire district’s governing board. The FMMFD could acquire a ladder truck at a substantial cost savings, Scholz told the board. The 75-foot Pierce Quint would then be refurbished at Firetrucks Unlimited in Henderson, Nevada. A preliminary cost estimate shows the project totaling $416,524. A new ladder truck would cost $700,000 to $800,000, Scholz said. “This looks like an opportunity we need to take a look at,” he said. “Do we want to take advantage of it, or let it go by?”
