Despite predictions, Sedona fire smoke clears Tuesday

The Platypus and Rhino Fires are currently burning near northwest Sedona, causing plumes of smoke to creep in over Flagstaff leaving many residents to take shelter indoors through the weekend. The two separate fires recently merged into one blaze being referred to as the Platypus-Rhino Fire. The fire is burning west of State Route 89A on the forest border of Yavapai and Coconino County. The combined total from both fires has burned nearly 4,048 acres, according to the Coconino National Forest Service. Brienne Pettit, spokesperson for the Coconino National Forest Service, expects this smoke to last throughout the week. The current fire plan is to let the fire burn itself out within the containment area.
