Phoenix Fire Department personnel who have been assisting rescue efforts in the wake of Hurricane Florence are on their way back home. Members of the department’s Arizona Task Force 1 urban search and rescue team embarked for the Carolinas on Sept. 10, four days before the massive storm made landfall. The 25 firefighters and 10 support personnel in the group started the trek back Wednesday and are expected to arrive in Phoenix on Sunday. A reunion with families was planned at the Phoenix Fire Special Operations facility between 5 p.m. and 6 p.m. In 2017, task force members were deployed to Texas to help out in the aftermath of Hurricane Harvey and rescued 17 people.
