Two engines and a water tender from the Flagstaff Fire Department on a report of a semi-truck fire Saturday afternoon in Flagstaff. The fire took place at around 1 p.m. on eastbound I-40 near the Butler Avenue Exit. Officials say when the first unit arrived they saw fire coming from the engine compartment of the semi with civilians using fire extinguishers to control it unsuccessfully. Firefighters quickly deployed hose lines and controlled the blaze using tank water from the engines and the water tender due to the absence of fire hydrants during interstate responses. There were no injuries reported. The incident resulted in the full closure of Interstate 40 eastbound while the scene was cleared.
