In just a week, Arizona’s Family has reported on four different drowning calls, two of which turned deadly.
As more people hit the pool to beat the heat, there are more opportunities for your child to get into a scary situation. “The thing about a drowning is it is 100% preventable. So, it’s just that we’re tired of hearing about it, said Capt. Dave Folio with Scottsdale Fire.
Folio said the first and most important thing is always ensuring someone is watching the pool. There should always be a designated watcher at a party or casual pool day. “Two seconds is too long. To go answer your phone. To do anything other than watch your child is too long,” Folio said.
Folio said you also need a pool fence that is secure and clear of clutter so your kid can’t sneak in or climb over it.
