Two Arizona firefighters were honored during a national tribute to fallen heroes. The National Fallen Firefighters Foundation hosted its 43rd National Fallen Firefighters Memorial Weekend from May 4 to 5, 2024. The tribute honored 89 firefighters who died in the line of duty in 2023 and 137 who passed away in previous years. The Arizona firefighters being remembered in the memorial are Tyrone Bell from the Verde Valley Fire District, who passed away in October 2021 at age 35, and Captain Samuel Criner of the Drexel Heights Fire District, who died in November 2021 at 45 years old. Both firefighters died from complications of COVID-19. “We are deeply thankful for the privilege of honoring and recalling those who have journeyed onward,” said Chaplain Loran Newton of the TN Federation of Fire Chaplains.
