Firefighters responded to a two alarm fire in East Central Fresno Thursday afternoon. Residents reported hearing some type of explosion. The home is located just East of Highway 168 on Holland Ave.
Firefighters were out there for a couple of hours putting out any hot spots, making sure there wasn't any danger. Several of them got on the roof and worked quickly to put out the flames which started just before two Thursday afternoon.
A neighbor said she smelled fire and then saw smoke so she knocked on the door, a man came out but had not realized his house was on fire and then went back in to grab his dog. Several people reported hearing what sounded like explosions.
"He was utilizing a generator to provide power to some portion of the structure and at some point it had ignited and he believes the fuel canisters near the generator ignited as well," Battalion Chief Lawrence French said.
The fire could be seen from a distance but firefighters were able to contain the flames within 30 minutes. The cost of the damages to the home is of about $175,000. No one was injured.
