Two Merced firefighters and one resident were injured during a fire that burned two homes and an apartment complex Wednesday, according to fire officials.
The blaze started just before 3 p.m. in the backyard of an abandoned home on Edwards Avenue near Yosemite Parkway. It burned a section of the neighboring Willow Glen Townhouse Apartments, causing damage that displaced 46 people, according to Merced Battalion Chief Cory Haas.
Emergency personnel treated one apartment resident and two firefighters for injuries that were not life-threatening, he said. The cause of the resident’s injuries was unclear, he said, and the firefighters’ injuries were related to their efforts to suppress the flames.
