The Grade Fire north of Yreka grew to 710 acres by Thursday evening but containment also grew to 60 percent, according to the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection. Evacuation advisories for north Yreka residents were lifted Thursday morning, but evacuations were in place for the Hawkinsville area, two miles north of Yreka off Highway 263 just west of Interstate 5. Highway 263 remained closed in the fire area while flames still threatened some 150 buildings, Cal Fire said. The Shasta County Fire Department sent four engines to help in the fire-fighting effort while the Redding Fire Department sent a strike-team leader and one engine after the fire started Wednesday afternoon, Redding Fire Chief Gerry Gray said.
