At least five people escaped a National City house fire that could have been a lot worse if flames spread into a nearby canyon, but thankfully was contained within the one home. It happened in the 1900 block of Palm Avenue. When firefighters arrived, they found the house fully engulfed in flames but were able to put it out. Crews say the fire started in a storage shed and moved into the home. One woman who rushed into her sister’s room to help her out was injured with third degree burns on her arm. Seven dogs were in the home. Six had been accounted for as of Friday morning, but one was still missing. Three other houses nearby were evacuated as a precaution while firefighters put out the flames, but all families were allowed to come back in once the fire was knocked down. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
