Today in Concord, Contra Costa County Fire and United Professional Firefighters of Contra Costa County, Local 1230, held a Line-of-Duty Death Commemoration. The commemoration was for fire captain Matt Burton and fire engineer Scott Desmond who paid the ultimate sacrifice 9-years ago attempting to rescue two residents inside a San Pablo home. They were attempting to rescue Mr. and Mrs. Moore on Michelle Drive in Montalvin Manor, San Pablo. All four lives were lost leaving behind family and friends who cherished their them. Both Matt and Scott left behind their parents, wives and children. Matt with two children and Scott with one. This year, as Contra Costa Fire was updating their fire engines, they have placed plaques on engines to remember both Burton and Desmond.
