A three-alarm fire that broke out at a strip mall in La Puente Sunday night caused $3.5 million in damages, authorities said.
Around 70 firefighters battled the blaze that was reported at a commercial strip mall in the 1700 block of East Valley Boulevard at 8:45 p.m, according to Los Angeles County Fire Department officials. The fire was extinguished at 10:37 p.m. The fire started in one unit in the mall and spread to several others. No civilians or firefighters were injured in the blaze.
Inspector Randall Wright, a spokesman for the department, said the fire causes $3 million in damages to the structure and $500,000 in damages to contents. It was unclear how many units in the strip mall were affected by the blaze.
“It appears to be total loss,” Wright said, adding that the structure was “heavily damaged.”
The cause of the fire was still under investigation Monday morning.
