Vallejo firefighters said a house fire claimed a young boy’s life Sunday morning. Just before 10 a.m., the Vallejo Fire Department received reports of a working residential structure fire in the 800 block of Stella Street in North Vallejo. While firefighters were on their way, they received more reports that a 5-year-old child was possibly trapped inside the home. This prompted the department to call a second alarm before even arriving to the home, said Firefighter Kevin Brown of the Vallejo Fire Department. Firefighters from Engine 25 first made it to the home and were met with multiple neighbors who were attempting to access the residence to rescue the boy. Responders made an aggressive interior attack in order to locate the victim, Brown said. After a few minutes, the boy was found deceased inside the house. Also injured in the fire were the boy’s mother who suffered third degree burns and her teenage son who sustained minor burns. Both were taken to a local hospital for their injuries, Brown said. The fire was large enough to fully engulf several rooms inside the residence, and the rest of the home sustained smoke damages and will be considered as a total loss, firefighters said. Because of the fatality, a full investigation is underway involving the fire and police departments and further information is expected to be released at a later date, Brown added. This marked the second fire death this year in Vallejo.
