The Rose fire near Lake Elsinore on Wednesday morning was 75 percent contained and firefighters had managed to keep the fire from spreading past 200 acres, fire officials said.
The fire, which may have been sparked by a mower, was reported a little before 2:30 p.m. Monday in the 14800 block of Amorose Street. It quickly swelled in acreage and prompted the evacuation of nearby homes.
By about 8 p.m. that evening, the evacuation orders were lifted and firefighters had stopped the forward spread of the blaze, according to a Cal Fire/Riverside County fire news release.
The fire may have started when a homeowner was trying to clear brush to protect his home from wildfires. Fire officials confirmed the blaze may have been caused by “equipment use.”
