A fire burned through the roof of an apartment building in Arcadia today and was being confronted by firefighters from several departments.
Los Angeles County firefighters were sent to the 800 block of Fairview Avenue shortly after 6 a.m., according to the Los Angeles County Fire Department. They were later joined by firefighters from Pasadena, Arcadia, Monrovia and San Gabriel.
Some 40 people who live in 14 now-uninhabitable apartments were displaced and receiving accommodation assistance from the American Red Cross, according to reports from the scene.
Part of the roof collapsed, but no injuries were immediately reported.
Firefighters apparently gained the upper hand on the fire within about 90 minute, and worked to completely extinguish the flames. But by 7:45 a.m., no knockdown had been declared.
