Santa Cruz firefighter-paramedic dies after battling cancer

Santa Cruz City Local 1716 is saddened to announce the passing of one of its own in the line of duty. Santa Cruz Firefighter/Paramedic Clayton Ogdenwas diagnosed with job-related cancer on Tuesday, July 11, 2017. He succumbed to his disease on August 1. He was 47 years old. Brother Ogden was hired as a firefighter with the City of Santa Cruz in 1999. He was the department’s most senior firefighter, as well as a recipient of the “Firefighter of the Year” award in 2014. Most recently, Brother Ogden was the recipient of the Santa Cruz City Fire Department’s Medal of Valor for his heroic actions during a police shooting in 2013. He was also a member of the Tac-Medic team. Brother Ogden was known for his lighthearted approach to a challenging profession. He took great passion and pride in serving the community.
