The wildland fire burning above Banning was much less wild after its first 24 hours.
By Tuesday evening, Aug. 15, firefighters had put a stop to the Mias fire’s spread and greatly increased containment.
“Everything’s holding right now. We’re very excited about the progress everybody’s been making,” said Capt. Lucas Spelman, a spokesman for the Cal Fire/Riverside County Fire Department.
The burn area remained at 540 acres as of 6 p.m. but containment jumped to 40 percent over the course of the day. Firefighters were expected to do “mop up” Tuesday evening and for the next few days, Spelman said.
