A series of fires closed Highway 89 in eastern Shasta County Thursday afternoon. According to CAL FIRE, firefighters battled a series of fires which burned 17 acres near the intersection of Highway 89 and Highway 299. The fire was 90 percent contained as of Friday morning. Caltrans reported the closure of Highway 89 from between Highway 299 and Highway 44 during the incident. All road closures were lifted late Thursday evening. CAL FIRE said that firefighters worked quickly to mitigate all threats to structures.
