From Santa Cruz 'Miracle Boy' to attempted murder of U.S. Forest Service division fire chief: Jacob Kirkendall

Jacob Kirkendall, a Santa Cruz man who owes his life to a heroic La Selva Beach firefighter, is now behind bars and accused of attempting to kill a firefighter in south Monterey County. Kirkendall, 25, shot a U.S. Forest Service division fire chief who was driving a marked vehicle on Nacimiento-Fergusson Road in south Monterey County, Monday evening, according to Sheriff's Cmdr. John Thornburg. Division fire chief Peter Harris was shot in the neck and ear, and he underwent surgery at a hospital for non-life-threatening wounds.
