Small pockets of flames continued to pop up, and fire crews kept an eye on smoldering smoke Tuesday morning hours after they controlled a four-alarm fire that burned in the Oakland Hills overnight. The blaze destroyed two houses and damaged at least five other neighboring homes, Battalion Chief Dino Torres of the Oakland Fire Department said. The two homes that were destroyed were under construction in the 6600 and 6700 blocks of Snake Road. No firefighters or residents were injured in the fire. The two houses that were destroyed were on private property, Torres said, but fire crews had not made contact with the owner or contractor by 10:30 a.m. Investigators were “not even close to determining the origin or cause,” he said.
